Resources For Learning Online
Here you will find links to some of my favourite websites, places I visit often online, websites that I use in my classroom or in my own learning and anything else that I find interesting or exciting and that I want to share with others.
Some of my faves:
www.fluency21.com "An innovative resource designed to cultivate 21st century fluencies, while fostering engagement and adventure in the learning experience." This website is by author Ian Jukes, a presenter at the CUEBC Conference in Vancouver that I attended in October, 2012. His book Literacy is not Enough details skills that are necessary for students to survive in the 21st Century classroom and world.
http://jeaniewilson.edublogs.org/ Ms. Wilson is a Literacy Helping Teacher in the Chilliwack School District who visited my classroom and was kind enough to include us in her blog. The blog posting for our class was titled 'Sward's Classroom!' and was posted on September 28, 2012.
http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=315944 This amazing resource site was developed and is maintained by the Tech Helping Teacher in our resource, Mr. Haworth. This is essentially a listing of tried and true apps to use with iPads or iPods in the classroom, sorted by subject or educational tool. If you need an app for that, this is a great place to start looking!
http://www.delicious.com/krissward This is my own delicious account - again, very much under construction. It is a listing of resources for my online learning action plan as well as a listing of sites I like to visit in my travels.
http://www.bcedplan.ca/theplan.php This is a site that details and outlines the incoming BC Education Plan. It's aim is to recognize the individual interests and characteristics of the 21st Century learner and engage and challenge them by focusing on relevant, technology based learning.
http://www.learnnowbc.ca/ Search online course offerings at Learn Now BC. Courses are available by region and subject.
https://www.khanacademy.org/ What a fantastic collection of videos on topics ranging from math and science to humanities. Is there any subject this guy doesn't cover? An awesome resource for teachers and students alike!
Silly me - I kept up this action plan resource list throughout the OLTD coursework. I've refined my question now, but some of this still applies, and all of it is relevant!

Some favourites sites to use with my class:
www.storybird.com - an amazing storytelling site that allows students to choose artwork and write a story to accompany it. I have had some very creative results with this one! Student accounts are protected from view of everyone on the site.
www.facebook.com - I have a class profile that I use to keep parents and students up to date with current happenings in the class.
www.education.weebly.com - I also have a class website (http://cles.sd33.bc.ca/classroom/sward) to keep parents up to date and I use a weebly site (http://clesmrssward.weebly.com/) to house work we do as a class (like our novel study unit and our weekly picture to blog from). My goal for next year is to sign up with an online marks program that will allow parent access to student marks at any time
www.socrative.com - love this app more than the site, but the site allows for all devices to use. Teachers set up weekly quizzes, ticket out the door reviews or games and students answer multiple choice, true or false or short answer questions and submit for marks. Very cool app that students love!
www.prezi.com - my overall favourite presentation tool - so many cool themes to present info in an interesting and dynamic way. Unfortunately accounts are limited to 18 and older, so I haven't been able to use it in my class, but I've used it numerous times!
Minecraft for education (currently using BCNEXUS with my class) - kids love building in virtual worlds and I try to tie it in to the curriculum in our country study unit where students can build replicas of famous landmarks.
Some favourite apps to use with my class:
Socrative - weekly quiz tool - mentioned above
SonicPix - great presentation tool. Students take a series of pictures then scroll through them as they add audio explanations of their work.
Educreations - similar to SonicPix or Khan Academy - Educreations allows students to create presentations using audio and a whiteboard.
Khan Academy - amazing collection of videos on topics ranging from math and science to history and humanities. Wow!
Book Creator - great way to create eBooks with your class!
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore - wonderful story for all book lovers - I 'read' this one with the new students to our school every year. Lots of fun!
The Numberly's - Similar to Mr. Lessmore's above - a funny story about the creation of letters...
Story Wheel - great story starter app - I get kids to create their own audio books with this app.
Memoirs of a Goldfish - Another fantastic interactive eBook. Enjoy!
Glowburst - ordering numbers - kids love the challenge and the game is very addictive - be careful!
Crossfingers - fun game to develop strategy and spatial sense. Again - addicting!
Geoboard - like the real thing only on a mobile device. You can even choose different coloured elastics!
Math Contenders (any version) - pits students against each other in a race to know their basic math facts.
Math Tappers (any version) - review of a variety of math facts. Can set levels to be easy to hard.
Oh No! Fractions - fun game to help students order fractions.
Hungry Fish - basic adding work here, but fun for littler kids
Pop Math - match equations with their answers - very easy but fun
King of Math - paid app that allows you to work through a variety of math concepts and levels.
Fotopedia (various) -amazing pics of the world...I could get lost in these apps!
Stuck on Earth - My absolute favourite time waster - high quality pictures from all over the world. Careful - some pics of people drinking or works of art that might be deemed inappropriate for young eyes but an amazing view of this planet we call home!
Course by course:

Here is a collection of resources that I've used for my various papers and projects. Some courses have more than others.....though we did readings for all!
