Community Connections
In an attempt to build a "Community of Practice" of my own, here are a few connections that I've made in the online world with fellow students, colleagues and new friends:
http://www.viu.ca/education/OLTD/ Might as well start with the purpose of all this. This site welcomes you to the program that I am currently enrolled in, the Online Learning and Teaching Diploma through Vancouver Island University. A two year diploma program that will lead to a Master's Degree, it includes courses that will help me to develop engaging and relevant online courses, use mobile devices, social media and cloud computing in the classroom and become well versed in the tools and applications used in online education. Check it out!
http://cultuslake.sd33.bc.ca/classroom/sward My own classroom website. I update this website weekly to keep parents and students informed of upcoming events and due dates. We are changing to a virtual classroom/student dashboard format in early November, so keep an eye here for an updated link.
Blogs. Here are a few blogs that I try to keep my eye on now and again in order to keep up with technology:
http://www.educationworld.com/a_tech/columnists/johnson/johnson.shtml information about using tech in the classroom.
http://www.downes.ca/ Stephen Downes is an online education guru. As a class we visited his blog site and received feedback from him almost immediately. You can choose to sign up and receive weekly newsletters of his work.
http://www.livebinders.com/play/play/566834 information about the open classroom.
http://www.fluency21.com/blog.cfm Ian Jukes' blog about teaching the digital generation and using technology in the classroom.
G+ Communities - I'm currently a member of over 20 communities (not many, I know!) from various OLTD communities to Gamification in Education to iPad Education to MOOCs and on and on. One thing I'll have to do when I get my life back (lol) is spend time perusing content in all of these communities and putting it into effective use in the classroom.
Action Plan Websites. For my personal action plan I am looking into effective online use in the classroom (building digital citizenship skills). Here are a few links to resources I've found so far:
